Consistency is key

I have had several good days of weight training in a row, and my nutrition has been quite good. I am feeling great. Pretty clear that consistency is a huge factor in success when it comes to training.

When I was training in high school for swimming or cross-country, we worked out for 2+ hours per day, 5-6 days per week, for 12 weeks. There was no other option. It wasn’t like I could skip out on practice because I was hungry or tired or bored.

I went because a) all my friends were doing it and b) my ride wasn’t gonna pick me up until 6:30pm….and I lived like 5 miles from school. That is a long walk.

What did we get for training every day? Over the course of a season, progress was virtually guaranteed. Every single running or swimming season, my times improved…dramatically. Frankly, practically everyone on the team improved their times. Puberty might have had something to do with it; but I think consistency was the biggest factor.
