this is the home of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s School of Management, and adjacent to his organization’s Vedic City. This place is supposedly entirely vegetarian, the whole town stops to meditate twice daily and practice yogic flying (really) and the streets are laid out according to Vastu (ancient Indian principles….akin to fueng shui in Oriental traditions).
We are making good time driving….and will probably stay in Fairfield for the night…depending on how interesting this place is.

Many critics consider Transcendental Meditation a cult led by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. For an alternative view of the TM Movement, readers may be interested in checking out TM-Free Blog, TranceNet.net, or my counseling site, KnappFamilyCounseling.com, where individuals recovering from Transcendental Meditation and similar groups will find helpful information.

Hello Ravi,
Welcome to Fairfield! Despite the post above, I wouldn’t worry about falling into a cult in Fairfield…. there are too many wonderful things about this unique community to discover and enjoy.
Fairfield is much more than TM or Maharishi University of Management, although it enjoys the benefits (and challenges) of a diverse population which has been created by the university buying the old Parsons College campus in 1974, and attrcating people from all over the US and the world. About 30% of Fairfield’s population are “newcomers” over the last 33 years.
Because this diversity his has been integrated into Fairfield’s great history of creativity and rural entrepreneurism, the town of under 10,000 has a unique culture of progressive change combined with traditional Midwest values. Fairfield is one of a handful of locations awarded an “Iowa Great Place” designation.
Please enjoy the following links to learn more about our amazing town. You may be traveling there to visit MUM, but you’re selling yourself short if you don’t discover all the wonderful cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities in Fairfield.
I hope I run into you to personally welcome you!
